Tiny Treasures and Summer Fun

A showcase of some tiny treasures we picked up this past weekend!

Just checking in to say how happy we are that it is finally summer here in the ‘Burgh – we’ve been hitting up the estate sales and flea markets, getting some sun, and enjoying ourselves immensely!  When we’re not out junking in the summertime, you can catch us working on our 1972 Shasta trailer – we run another website where we chronicle our restoration.  We’ve still got lots of smalls and furniture on display at E.N. Miller Antique Mall, we’ll have new stock coming up in our Etsy shop this week, and we’re hoping we won’t get rained out again at the July Flea-tique (it’s pouring as I write this!  Weather can be so unpredictable!).  So there – now you’ve got a bunch of links to keep you busy – and we’ll keep checking in over the summer!  We hope you’re enjoying the season as much as we are.

All Mixed Up and Swinging Into Show Season

Ten behind the Polyverse table at the Pittsburgh Vintage Mixer

We had a blast this past Saturday at the Pittsburgh Vintage Mixer, held at the Heinz History Center down in Pittsburgh’s Strip District.  Our stock featured a mix of housewares, decor, and accessories – we had hats, handbags, ladies’ hair bows, jewelry, wall hangings, suitcases, a typewriter or two, lamps, and more!  While we managed to find new homes for lots of our wares, good news for those of you who couldn’t make it to the Mixer – we’ll be bringing all this and more to the Allegheny-Kiski Valley Historical Society Flea-tique next Sunday, May 17th.  Looks like it’ll be another hot day – but we’ll be there in space 122 with our sun shade and our smiles!  If you haven’t been to the Flea-Tique, do yourself a favor – enjoy the friendly dealers, grab some lunch from one of the food vendors, and find some treasure – all while supporting the Historical Society through your $3.00 entrance fee.

Thanks to everyone who made the Spring 2015 Pittsburgh Vintage Mixer possible – we had a great time and can’t wait for the fall.  I love people-watching at the Mixer – so many stylish Pittsburghers, struttin’ their retro appeal!  We love the Steel City and we’re glad show season is finally here – hope you’ll come out and see us next Sunday!

See You at the Pittsburgh Vintage Mixer, March 9th!

We are proud to announce we’ll be making our second appearance at the fabulous Pittsburgh Vintage Mixer for a day of kitsch, conversation, and collectables!  The Mixer is Pittsburgh’s one-of-a-kind vintage vendor fair – and we’re super excited to be invited.  We’ve got some fantastic stock that we’ll be bringing – so come down to the Heinz History Center on Saturday, March 9th, from 10:00 am – 3:00 pm.   Check out these photos for a sample of our stock!

Beautiful Bakelite Boats

We have a family farm in upstate PA, and we love traveling to visit our friends and relatives.  In addition to good company, we enjoy good picking along the way – we have several regular stops and always wind up filling the car full of goodies.  This past weekend was the first time we’ve gotten to make the trip in 2015 – which is a sure sign that spring is here to stay!  We had a couple of good meals cooked for us at family restaurants, a couple of good meals cooked for us by actual family, and found more than a couple of items to add to our stock and personal collections.

We’re bakelite and plastic collectors, and when we saw these boats we knew they were unusual and we had to bring them home.  While we’ve seen lots of bakelite jewelry, housewares, and other odds and ends, we’ve never seen anything quite like these little sailboats.  Each measures about 5.5 inches tall, and has a bakelite base, bakelite sails, and little carved bakelite bird.  The sails are rigged with what looks like fishing line to (probably) celluloid masts.  The marbling on the sails is so lovely and they really catch the light!  I’m looking forward to cleaning them up and admiring them for a while.  If you have seen similar pieces, or if you have some yourself, please leave a comment – we’d love to find some more information about them.
